Often over looked when fault finding poor idle, this rubber pipe gets old and hardened due to constant heat cycling from the engine. This can cause poor idling problems with the car as it allows unmetered air to leak into the intake system, as this rubber pipe is part of the crank case/cylinder head breather system that recycles air from inside the engine back into the intake system to be burnt in the combustion chamber.
